Since the late 1940’s the Gerrie family has been farming on the edge of scenic Elora. Over the years the business has continued to grow and change. Harvey and Alice Gerrie began with a chick hatchery and a tree and shrub nursery. Harvey was very involved in the local Horticultural society, and is fondly remembered for his many gardening tips on the local TV channel. Many current customers still remember buying eggs from Harvey and Alice, and she faithfully graded and candled eggs daily until shortly before her passing in 2013. Paul, Harvey’s son took over the farm and garden centre in 1986. He began growing more produce and expanded the farm market. In 2005 he began bringing in other locally grown produce and adding frozen meats to the store. In the mean time the garden centre also expanded, packaging and retailing quality garden seeds along with fertilizers and soils. Year 2016 brought a big change as the store and facilities were rebuilt, more than doubling the square footage. Many more items including dairy, flour and cereals, quality oils, and more preserves were added to the shelves. Paul’s son Tim is now actively involved and the legacy of serving the community continues.
